Useful links for writers

Holly Lisle's Forward Motion - Author Holly Lisle offers a vast resource of writing-related articles, workshops, and FAQs on her website.

WritersWeekly.com
is a freelance writing information service run by Angela Hoy. Angela provides plenty of fresh markets weekly, and is a tireless crusader against writer abuse of any kind. I've subscribed to Angela's newsletter for years.

The WritersWeekly forum is very active with a group of regulars, most of whom have been with the forum for years.

Angela and her husband, Richard, also run Booklocker.com, which is a Print on Demand publisher, but one which vets the books it takes on for marketability. They can only take US writers currently.

Write101.com is a website packed with grammar tips, articles, ebooks, and writing advice. It is run by Jennifer Stewart, a fellow Aussie who lives in sunny Queensland. Jennifer's Writing Tips newsletter was the very first writing newsletter I subscribed to and I still enjoy reading through it every Friday when it appears in my inbox. Read a guest article by Jennifer Stewart on "Getting Started"

Filbert Publishing is another writer-owned publishing company run by husband and wife team Beth and Maury Erikson.

Zokutou is a British writing group formed as a support system for post NaNoWriMo survivors. It's a quiet forum but they provide excellent free writing tools such as word counters and meters, random word generators, and analysis tools.

Book in a Week is an online writing challenge group with the aim of writing as much as possible every first week of the month. Daily page counts are posted to the group for support and encouragement.

Preditors and Editors - look up any agents, editors, or publishers you intend to work with. Just in case.

Links for fun and gossip

Kendell Porter's Urban Bunker - join Kendell, Dainty Warrior, and the Original Orang-utan Squad as they turn ordinary events into chaos.

Ms. Karen's Place - Read in side-splitting delight as Karen controls her household, tiara and fangs firmly in place. Lord of the Manor, the two Minions (Middle and Most Minor), and the furry ones, had better toe the line. With occasional visits from Spawn (the eldest, who has now been married off to Spawn-in-law) and Grande Dame of the Universe and the Prince Consort (aka Karen's mum and dad).

Miss Snark the literary agent - just how dumb are writers and the publishing industry? Miss Snark will have a comment that will curl your toenails. But that could just be the gin...

Although Miss Snark has now retired, her blog archives are still available, and there are thousands of useful entries and comments to trawl through.

Pooper's Scoops - what exactly is going on online? If it's somehow related to writing, Pooper knows about it.
